Highlighted on this slide are the primary differences between the L6599A controller and the second generation L6699 controller. The previously mentioned features; the anti-capacitive protection mode, the smooth start-up and the auto-adjusting, adaptive dead-time are included. The adaptive dead-time feature automatically adjusts the dead-time between 200 and 700 ns, depending on the load. Most other controllers have a fixed dead time. Abnormal, over-current protection is another important feature of the L6699 IC which works in either an auto-restart or a latched mode. The L6599 only worked in the latched mode. Also significant is a soft burst-mode prevents audible noise generation when there is no load or a very light load on the output of the supply, and the IC is operating in burst mode. As indicated on the slide, these features and functions have patents pending. As was mentioned on the previous slide, the L6699 was kept pin-for-pin compatible for easy migration, only a few minor component changes are necessary to realize the correct functionality of the improved current sense operation of the L6699 IC.
