Shown on this slide are some of the typical applications for resonant supplies. This includes high-power AC - DC power supplies, anything over 50 W. A lot of the power supply adapters for notebook computers use the resonant half-bridge topology to achieve the very small size such as adapters that come with a new notebook computer. Other computers that have to meet high efficiency requirements, such as desktops and servers, use resonant power supplies to achieve higher power density and a small form factor. Bulk power supplies for telecom applications also require and use the same converter strategies in order to get the very high efficiency and low dissipation that their designers desire. In the consumer segment, resonant power supplies are being used in products such as flat panel TVs, game consoles, and even in high-power LED lighting. Resonant power supplies are very useful and are being deployed anywhere that high efficiency and small form factor are needed.
