Like resistors, PTC’s exhibit a resistance reading. The difference with PTC’s is that the resistance changes greatly as the temperature changes. The resistance of the PTC is able to change drastically because as the PTC heats up, the atoms making up the PTC ceramic re-arrange themselves in a different pattern which then locks the free electrons into place so they are no longer able to wander about freely in the ceramic.
