FIL Series/SFP2 Series EMC Filters

Phoenix Contact adds the FIL-1S, SFP2, and TTC-6-SFP components to its electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) filter family. EMC refers to the interaction of electrical and electronic equipment with the surrounding environment's electromagnetic noise. EMC filters attenuate high-frequency noise that is generated by equipment during normal operation and under fault conditions.

Conventional general-purpose filters only cover a small part of the total market for EMC filters. Phoenix Contact FIL-1S and SFP2 filters essentially uphold the needs of equipment users looking for products with the following properties:

• In-line noise filtration circuits
• Cost-effective IP20-rated EMC filters for universal protection against electrical noise disturbances and damaging surge events
• Plastic (for FIL-1S) or metal (for SFP2) housings
• DIN rail mounting
• Suitable for standard single-phase power circuit protection applications (FIL: AC or DC, SFP2: AC only) where filtration requirements are needed and standard requirements are placed on the filter characteristics
• Additionally, SFP2 filters integrate overvoltage surge protection on both the input and output sides of the filter circuit.

DIN rail-mountable general-purpose EMC filters provide protection for sensitive equipment against line coupled high-frequency noise. These devices are designed for basic electrical installations exposed to high frequency noise on power supply lines. When installed close to susceptible equipment, they limit the disturbances the susceptible equipment is exposed to. This helps to prevent premature failures, shortened service life, and unplanned downtime of equipment.

Frequency converters, switching power supplies, and lighting system drivers are often sources of interference in power systems. Some EMC interference is mitigated directly at the source of interference by special filter circuits. However, the remaining interference can propagate and amplify via the supply and control lines. This can have unpredictable effects on controllers, power supplies, sensors, and actuators. Our filters limit the interference directly in front of potentially susceptible equipment or sensitive end devices.

The FIL-1S is a conventional in-line filter that installs on single-phase 120 V to 240 V AC/DC power circuits. It effectively protects equipment loads against high frequency noise interference.

SFP2 filters include surge protection circuits to further protect 120 V and 240 V single-phase AC equipment loads. While conventional filters only protect against high-frequency noise disturbances, they cannot adequately protect against transient surge events. Additional surge protection components are required to fully protect today's sophisticated electrical/electronic equipment loads from both power abnormalities. SFP2 filters are designed to effectively protect against both high-frequency noise interference and transient overvoltage. They are equipped with transient overvoltage protection circuits on both the input and output sides of their filtration circuitry to deliver the highest possible levels of protection against noise and surge anomalies that plague modern equipment operation and reliability.

TTC-6-SFP filters also provide both noise and surge protection, but in a slim 6.2 mm wide package. This universally acceptable interference suppression filter attenuates high-frequency noise interference occurring on signal lines while simultaneously discharging surge voltages that can disrupt data communications.
