In the circuit example shown here, the SMD PTC thermistor is used to monitor a “hot spot” location. In this case, the PTC is placed in thermal contact with a component that must not overheat, such as a MOSFET, and then linked to a series resistor and the voltage sensing pin of the IC monitoring circuit performance. This circuit is ideal for applications such as power supplies, desktop adapters, lithium ion battery protection, and DC/DC converters.
