Low-Power HCSL ClearClock™ Oscillators

This addition to the Abracon ClearClock family features low-power HCSL surface-mount crystal oscillators (XOs) offered in standard 2016, 2520, and 3225 package formats. These devices achieve typical supply currents as low as 12 mA.

The low-power HCSL (LP-HCSL) interface was originally designed to reduce the higher power draw of conventional HCSL drivers. Beyond power savings, the LP-HCSL provides several advantages, including improved capability for driving longer trace lengths, simplified AC coupling, reduced layout complexity, smaller footprint requirements, and lower overall BOM costs. Importantly, an HCSL receiver does not distinguish between a conventional HCSL source and an LP-HCSL driver. These oscillators integrate termination resistors, eliminating the need for external components, which makes them particularly well-suited for PCIe designs. LP-HCSL technology not only cuts power consumption but also simplifies routing, optimizes board space, supports long trace performance, and streamlines AC-coupled signal transmission.
